SEXUAL LURE AS USED FOR CONTROL OF POPLAR CLEAR-WINGED MOTH (PARANTHRENE TABANIFORMIS)

Poplar clear-winged moth (Paranthrene iabaniformis) is one of the common wood borer in north part of China. Survey made in Beijing showed the infection rate may reach 70% in tree seedling nurseries. It is rather difficult to control this pest. Spray of 1 : 800 solution of 40% oxydi me thorate should repeat 6-8 times for effective control. From 1982 to 1984 for monitoring a sexual lure reagent for this specie (trans, cis) -3, 13 octadecadienol was used during the emerging stage. It is possible to predict, in Beijing district, that the initial stage of emergence is in first ten days of May, to the middle of December. This stage is prolonged for 5 months. Appearance of a second generation of adults was observed. A combination of sexual lure reagent and chemical control not only reduces the number of sprays but also improves the environmental conditions in protection of the natural enemies to this pest.The effect of control is also increased, in case of not spraying insecticides, a loss of 95 yuan may be avoided on each mou (0.066 hectare). 200ug of the reagent is used as trap carrier, the trapping distance is 100-200 meters. In the whole period of emergence, there is no need to change the trap carrier.
