The Measurement of the Feeding and Excrement of the Dendrolimus tabulaeformis Larvae

On the average, if all the pine needles that one a Dendrolimus tabulaeformis larva eats during its lifetime were put togather, the total length would be 2 065-2 255cm, and the total weight would be 7.5007-8.5057g dw (dry weight). A female larva eats needles with a total length of 2 442-2 780cm, and total weight of 8.8951-10.011g dw, while the needles eaten by a male, a total length was 1 688-1930cm, a total weight was 6.0988-7.0070g dw. A close relationship between the weight of the pupa and the quantity of the needles eaten by the larvae has been found. y = - 0.6640 + 0.2633x. The larval faeces grain numbers are 2 560, equaling 6.4503g dw in its entice lifetime. The female's excrement grain numbers are 261.3, weighing 7.6703g dw, and the male's 2508, weighing 7.6703g dw, and the male's 2508, weighing 5.2500g dw. The faeces grain size and the dry weight per 100 grains increase along with the larve age constanly. All these information can be used to decide the larvae age. The results provide some important datum for deciding the critical value of controling this pest,
