Studies on Cultivars of Crape-Myrtle(Lagerstroemia indica)and Their Uses in Urban Greening
Zhang Qixiang(Department of Landscape Architecture, BFU)
On the basis of investigation in 15 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions from 1982 to 1988, the author found that there were 16 crape-myrtle species native to China and 2 introduced from southeast Asia.Among the cultivated species, about 50 cultivars in various colours and flower forms were included. All the cultivars are classified into 4 series, 9 groups and 18 forms, being the skeleton of the cultivar resources of crape-myrtle in China. Some notes on interesting methods for training and shaping crape-myrtles used in park and gardens are given.
