Growth Analysis of Black Locust and Site Characters of Hilly Granite Regions in Hebei Province

Chen Guangtai Wang Wenquan Yuan Yuxin(Hebei Forestry College, Baoding)  
Black locust (Robinia Pseudoacacia L.) is mainly distibuted over the hilly granite regions of Hebei province.The main site characters are drought,thin soil and lack of adequate nutrition.The shape of slope that obviously affects the reallocation of water,soil and nutrition is the major site factor affecting tree growth.The principal character of the tree's growth in the region is it's decline in the early growth stages.To guarantee good growth of black locust,enough water and nutrition is needed.In this area,the site supplies cannot reach the demands,more over,the tree's root system is drstributed only in the upper layers of the soil.So the adaptation of black locust to the site is limited.As to the management of the stands of black locust,early utilization of the trees should be performed in line with the tree's growth characters.
