Preliminary Study on Ecological Threshold of Poplar Longicorn Beetle

On the basis of review on characteristics and limitations of economic threshold(ET) in integrated pest management (IPM) of forest pests, especially forest borers, the concept of ecological threshold (ECT) in shelter belt forest is expounded firstly according to management purposes of different forest kinds. The distinctions between ECT and ET and their characteristics are discussed. Preliminary studies are conducted to test ECT of poplar longicorn beetles( Anoplophora glabripennis and A.nobilis ) in shelter belt forest in Qingtongxia City, Ningxia. The results show that emergence holes of the beetles can be acted as characteristic indicator value of ECT of Populus opera (P. simonii×P. pyramidalis ). In Ganchengzi township, neglecting the influence of other pests and factors of non organism, the ECT of the beetle is 4.8 emergence holes in mixed forest of 8～10 years old ,by P. opera (P. simonii×P. pyramidalis ) and P. alba var. pyramidalis at a ratio of 1∶3. The range of the ecological threshold is 4～6.
