Dynamics of enzyme activity in the soil of pure and mixed stands of poplar and black locust.

The enzyme activities of soil(non rhizosphere and rhizosphere soil)were measured in the pure and mixed stands of poplar( Populus spp.) and black locust ( Robinia pseudoacacia ) in spring, summer and autumn. The results show that the enzyme activities of non rhizosphere soil in the mixed stand were increased by 50%~100% than that in pure stand. But the enzyme activities of rhizosphere soil of poplar in mixed stand were increased, and that of black locust were decreased. It can be concluded that the transformation of nitrogen and phosphorus were improved and poplar benefited more than black locust after they were mixed.
