Absorption properties of modified Larix barks to metal ions.

A new biosorbent, modified Larix bark was studied, and its performance for heavy metal ion adsorption was evaluated. Experimental results show that the performance of modified Larix bark related to its preparation and adsorption conditions. The optimum conditions of preparation for sodium hydroxide concentration, the dose of epichlorohydrin, temperature and particle size of Larix bark are 0.8 mol/L, 20 mL per 5 g Larix bark, 50℃ and the range of 1--2 mm respectively. The optimum adsorption conditions for temperature, pH and adsorptive time are room temperature, 5.0 and 3 h for Fe\+\{2+\}, 45℃, 5.5 and 3 h for Cu\+\{2+\}, and room temperature, 6.0 and 2 h for Zn\+\{2+\} respectively. The adsorption of metal ions follows Langmuir isotherm in the tested range. The modified Larix bark can treat waster water with heavy metal ion concentration less than 100 mg/L.
