Comparative study on different IHS transform formulas for extraction of vegetation information.

Multi source image fusion is an important way to the vegetation information extraction. Comparative study has been done among the sphere, cylinder, triangle and hex cone IHS transform formula. Through the analysis of the statistical signatures such as entropy and standard deviation, spectral signatures, Bhattacharyya distance and vegetation index of fusion images generated by various transform formula, it is found that sphere transform formula is the optimum one for extracting vegetation information. The entropy, standard deviation and spectral difference of the fusion images generated by sphere formula are better than other formula. Sphere formula can guarantee the spectral coincidence between the merged images and the original multi spectral images. For the vegetation spectra signature, the difference between each two types increases after sphere transforms in TM4 band. The statistic results show that the separability of the two closest classes increases after sphere transforms. The analysis of vegetation index images shows that the entropy and standard deviation of the fusion images with sphere transform excell other transform formulas.
