Extraction techniques of volatile oil from Phyllostachys heterocyla cv. pubescens leaves

The bamboos leaves collected from Phyllostachys heterocyla cv.pubescens were pretreated with four extraction techniques(simultaneity distillation extraction(SDE),volatile oil distillatory(VOD),supercritical fluid extraction(SFE)and Sohlet's extraction method(SEM)) to examine volatile oil composition.Capillary GC/MS was used to analyze the profiles of volatile oil from the four extracts of bamboos leaves.68 components from all of 88 compounds detected in the volatile oil of bamboos leaves were confirmed according to NIST62 library data and manual resolving.It was seen that most of volatile oil composition using two extraction techniques SDE and VOD was alcohols,carboxylic acids,alkane hydrocarbon.The relative ratios of C_9-C_(16) compounds to total volatile oil were 69.10% and 62.11%,respectively.SFE technique was found most of the volatile oil compounds mainly were alkane hydrocarbons,carboxylic acids.The relative ratio of C_9-C_(16) was 22.91%, C_(17)-C_(25)was 27.98% and C_(26)-C_(38) was 22.78%.SEM technique showed that volatile oil compounds mainly were alkane hydrocarbons.The relative ratio of C_(26)-C_(38) was 58.55%.It is clear that differences in the profiles of the volatile oil of bamboos leaves exist due to the application of different extraction techniques.The present study indicates that the use of the SDE or VOD to extract bamboos leaves would give more information on volatile oil composition than the other techniques.
