Relationship between Melanophila acuminata outbreak and moisture content as well as tree temperature of Pinus tabulaeformis.

During 2004——2007,the conditions and mechanism of Melanophila acuminata attacking the transplanted pine trees in Beijing Botanical Garden were systematically investigated for the first time.The results showed that large moisture losses of transplants led to the tree temperature rising drastically,and the increase of heat radiation induces the transplants more attractive to the pest,and losing the ability of resisting the pest as the result of weakening photosynthesis and decrease of organic compounds.The increase of dry biomass density created favorable conditions for M.acuminata to obtain food,and the increase of tree temperature and day-night temperature difference created favorable environmental conditions for accelerating the metabolism and development of M.acuminata.The combination of the above factors led to M.acuminata outbreak.This paper also suggests the temperature standards and methods to judge whether the body temperature of pine trees is so high that they need to be watered for cooling down the temperature.
