The Numerical Taxonomy of Chinese Cymbidium

In this paper, 37 varieties and 37 characters of Chinese cymbidium are studied by means of numerical taxonomic methods. The R cluster reveals relationships among characters, at the same time, the authors preliminarily derive some characters for species and varieties classification. According to the Q cluster analysis, the 37 varieties are classified as Cymbidium goeringii, Cymbidium sinense and Cymbidium faberi. Furthermore,the authors divide these varieties into five types,i.e. pocket like petal, bamboo leaf like petal, multi flower, unspotted petal and abnormal petal type. Based on the R cluster and Q cluster analyses,the authors discuss the necessity and feasibility on the establishment of Management Information System of Chinese Cymbidium Classification.
