Geographical Variation of Morphologic Characteristics of Pinus bungeana Seeds and Cones

morphologic characteristics of seed and cone of P.bungeana have been studied intensively. The results show:there are no significant difference among morphologic characteristics of individual tree from same provenance.Those from different provenances appear a obvious difference except the length of seed. The height and the weight of cone prove a south north variation at same longitude, the thickness of seed, height and diameter ratio of cone, the number of seeds in individual cone show a west east variation at the same latitude.Southwest northeast variation is existed at the width of cone and proportion of seed coat.There are no significant trend on geographic variation on color of seed and cone, the number of scales of individual cone and 1 000 seeds' weight. They are controlled by amount of solar radiation, the length of frost free period, the temperature in the coldest month and the altitude.
