On Relatively Balance Gradient on Granite Mountain Slopes of Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River

Based on the principle of soil mechanics and hydrological dynamics, the relatively balance gradient in granite of the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River was studied by experiments and field survey. It is proved that slope is the dominant factor of slope stability. The paper puts forward the concept of relatively balance gradient. The equation of the balance slope on the granite mountainous area has been established as well.The relatively balance gradient is 26.3°calculated by the principle of hydrologic dynamics and the value is 24.99° analyzed by soil mechanics. The study result could provide scientific basis for the development of mountain area, the controlling of soil and water losses, the engineering design of soil and water conservation and reasonable development of agriculture and forest production.
