The Methods and Practice of DICOM Medical Image Acquisition

Image acquisition plays an important role in PACS. In this paper, we compare some currently used methods of image acquisition, and select the acquisition method through DICOM interface in network environment. After describing the concepts of DICOM network and the DICOM message exchange, we summarize the key technique for DICOM image acquisition. Our software is introduced as one solution for image acquisition from digital medical imaging systems. The software is written in Windows Socket API and provides such services as verification, storage, query and retrieve defined by DICOM standard, and acts as the acquisition server for images sent from imaging equipment. Up to now, our software works well with different equipment under different conditions.
