Theoretical evaluation on heating efficiency for four typical whole body hyperthermia approaches

Efficiently raising patient's body core temperature is an extremely important however challenging issues during the practice of a whole body hyperthermia(WBH)therapy.Up to now,there is no clear understanding on the effects of various currently existing WBH approaches yet.In this paper,theoretical evaluations on four typical WBH heating methods with boundary conditions close to reality were performed using finite element method.The heating efficiencies for these WBH approaches were examined and compared.Technical strategies to further improve the WBH heating performances were suggested.Specially,as the simulation indicates,the method of interior heating appears to have the highest efficiency and is also suitable for clinical operation.Therefore,it would be an important way to develop high-quality WBH equipment in the near future.
