Analysis of Experimental Modal in Structural Damage Detection

In this paper, the theory of experimental modal analysis is discussed and a cantilever beam is chose to provide data for the analysis. The shift of modal frequency caused by structural damage is studied based on the experimental modal analysis. A new method of strain curvature mode is proposed relative to the displacement mode, and principal shortcomings of this method are discussed. The displacement mode is compared with the strain mode, and the results indicate that the strain signature is more sensitive to damage.
