male and female teachers of middle and primary schools coming from 4 provinces, 6 states and 4 cities of China, Britain and the United States were tested on their value orientations by the Revised Ennis VOI 2. The results indicated that the characteristics of the value orientation of the Chinese, American and British PE (physical education) teachers were similar. The percentages of the DM (discipline major) and SA (self-actualizaton) value orientation were also similar in teachers of the three countries, but the rest three kinds of value orientation were different greatly. All kinds of value orientation of the American and British teachers were alike. The Chinese teachers showed higher preferences in LP (learning progress) and EI (ecological identity) values than the American and British teachers. They preferred SR (social responsibility). In the above three indexes the differences between the Chinese and the American and British teachers were significant, but the difference between the American and the British teachers was of no statistical significance. It is worth to note that the Chinese teachers whose length of teaching was under 20 preferred LP and EI, but those of the American and British teachers preferred SR. There was no significant difference among the value orientations of the three countries' teachers with the length of teaching more than 20. It was found that the PE teachers of the three countries believed that to acknowledge the students' potentials in teaching, to developed the student's self respect and to strengthen the students' confidence in study are the teachers' duty, which were not influenced by the cultural difference of the countries. However, LP, EI and SR reflected intensive influences of different culture, different social system and social conception on value orientation, which may be the reflection of social order and social standards in those three countries of two different social systems.
