Study on the Physical Exercise Motivation of the Old in China

FANG Yuan,JI Liu (School of Physical Education and Health, East-China Normal University, Shanghai, 200062, China)
The continuous increase in the number of old people participating in physical exercises indicates that more and more old people devote much attention to physical exercises. The study showed a diversified motivation of the old people for exercise participation, involving physiological needs, psychological and social factors, extrinsic as well as intrinsic motivations, and direct as well as indirect motivations. Problems in studies on the physical exercise motivation of the old people were also discussed in this paper and suggestions were made for future research.
