Research Advance on the Relationship between Self-esteem and Sports

LI Xiao-dong,ZHANG Li-wei(Beijing Sport University,Beijing 100084,China)  
James,Cooley and Mead are leading figures in the study of self-esteem.They provided the theories and backgrounds for the self-esteem study.Since 1990s,new progresses have been made in the field of self-esteem,whose main aspects include the relationship between self-esteem and cognition,emotion,the stability of self-esteem,the implicit self-esteem,and new discovery of factors of influencing self-esteem.All of these aspects provide us new viewpoints and angles on exploring the self-esteem.In the field of sports,people mainly focus on the study of relationship between self-esteem and body exercises.The research advance on the relationship between self-esteem and sports is reviewed and a prediction on the future trends in this field is also suggested.
