Relationship between Athletes' Burnout and Career Satisfaction,Self-Esteem and Source of Mental Control

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between athlete burnout and their career satisfaction,self-esteem,source of mental control in sport.Questionnaires about athletes' burnout,their career satisfaction,self-esteem,source of mental control are made among 193 athletes.The results indicate that athletes' burnout is significantly and negatively correlated with their career satisfaction and self-esteem,but positively correlated with chance and powerful others.there is significantly negative correlation between reduced sense of accomplishment and internal control;Hierarchical regression analyses indicated that athletes' burnout increases by 21.4 % explained variance to career satisfaction and it adds new explained variance to career satisfaction beyond demographic variables,source of mental control and self-esteem;self-esteem is a significantly positive prediction of burnout;internal control can significantly and negatively predict reduced sense of accomplishment,chance is a significantly positive prediction of emotion/physical exhaustion and sport devaluation.
