Effect of Ligustrum Lucidum Extract on NO Content and Total NOS Activity in Different Tissues of Rats

Objective: To study the effect of Ligustrum lucidum extract on the mechanism of rats' exercise capacity by using Ligustrum lucidum extract to influence the activity of nitric oxide(NO) content and total nitric oxide synthase(T-NOS) in different tissues of rats that receive high-intensity endurance training.Methods: 24 SD rats were randomly divided into sedentary control group(n=8),exercise control group(n=8) and exercise plus Ligustrum lucidum group(n=8).We determined the levels of nitric oxide and total nitric oxide synthase activity.Results: The nitric oxide content in various tissues of rats in the exercise control group and exercise plus Ligustrum lucidum was significantly higher than that in the sedentary control group(P0.01);The nitric oxide content in various tissues of rats in the exercise plus Ligustrum lucidum was also markedly greater than that in the exercise control group(P0.01,P0.05),The total nitric oxide synthase activity in various tissues of rats in exercise control group,was significantly higher than that in quiet control group(P0.05,P0.01),the total nitric oxide synthase activity in various tissues of rats in exercise plus Ligustrum lucidum group was significantly greater than that in the exercise control group(P0.01,P0.05).Compared with that of rats in the control group,the time of exhaustive exercise of rats in the exercise plus Ligustrum lucidum was prolonged by 23.09%.Conclusion: The results showed that complementing Ligustrum lucidum extract can adjust the total NOS activity in different tissues of rats,increase NO content,and extend the time from exercise to fatigue.
