Preparation of Fe~(3+) Doped Titanium Dioxide Photocatalytic Self-Cleaning Glass

A film of pure titanium dioxide or Fe 3+ doped titanium dioxide was coated on soda-lime glass by sol-gel and dip-coating methods and then a kind of photocatalytic self-cleaning glass was prepared after it was calcined. Using pyrocatechol violet as organic contaminant model, by making contrastive photocatalytic experiment ,it was found that the photocatalytic activity was much higher when Fe 3+ /TiO 2 was at proper weight percent. However,the photocatalytic activity declines when too much Fe 3+ is doped in the titanium dioxide, and the optimum weight percent is about at 1.5%.The absorption peak of the UV-visible absorption spectra nearly doubles its intensity and the absorption band shifts towards red about 30nm if Fe 3+ doped in the titanium dioxide at 1.5%. Optimum conditions for the preparation were also drawn out by investigating the effects of the calcining temperature and time in this paper.
