Spectral Power Distribution and Quantum Yield in Ce~(3+)-doped Glass-ceramics

Fluorescence spectra of Ce3+-doped Y3Al5O12(YAG) glass-ceramics have been determined under the pumping of blue lighting emitting diode(LED) using an integrating sphere of 10-inch diameter,which connected to a CCD detector.Integrating sphere measurement system is proved to be a reliable and reproducible tool to characterize white lighting phosphors.Standard halogen lamp was used for calibrating the measurement system and auxiliary halogen lamp was applied to determine the changes in throughput at the different steps of the measurement.The spectral power distribution of the sample under the blue LED pumping was derived from the measured spectra first,and then the quantum yield for the visible emission of Ce3+ was calculated to be 33.7% based on the distribution.New criterion and reference have been provided for developing new efficient LED luminescence materials.
