Studies on the differences of yield-make-up and quality betwesnmale and female plants of Asparagus officinalis L.

Several economical characters, i.e. the yield make-up and product qualities,of both male and female plants of Asparagus officinalis L. were analysed. The resultsshoAs that inale plants grew more rapidly and produce higher yield than femaleplants. The yield make-up of the male plant was a stem-nuxnber type, while that ofthe female plant being stem-weight one. The single stem weight was positivelycorrelative to its size, the regretion apuatioris were Ymale=69.70X-44.42,Yfemale=50.35X-25.09. There were no significant differences in quality indexes betweenthe two sexualities, exeept amino acids. We concluded that the male plant waspreferent for plantation, and measures to enhance the expansion of young stemswould increase the commercial value.
