The Statistical Tables and Calculating Procedures of the Exact Probability for Fourfold Tables
Fisher's exact probability treatment has been acknowledged as the most accurate method to undergo significance test on small sample based on the fourfold table data. However, his method has so far been applied only to one-sided test in his writing dealing with this subject. Nevertheless, there have been controversy among the statisticians on the problem of how to correctly employ it in the two-sided test. The writer is of the opinion that the sum of all the probabilities corresponding to |D|≥P1-P2 would be the criterion of judgement. He has prepared the statistical tables for two samples of not more than fifty individuals in each. These tables comprise 134,000 figures and contain the 0.05 and 0.01 levels of limit in all the combinations of both the one-sided tests as well as the two-sided tests. They may be used for reference by researchers of medicine or other disciplines pursuing significance tests based on fourfold table data.
