Determination of the contents of Ginseng saponins in Chinese and Korean red Ginseng

The quantitative determination of the total saponin in both Chinese and Korean, red ginseng was made by colorimetric method which is based on the reaction of 5% (W/V) vanillin in acetic acid solution and 70%(V/V) sulfuric acid solution. With eight saponins (Ginsenoside-Ro,Rb1 ,Rb2,Rc,Rd, Re, Rg1, Rg2)as standards a method for the determination of ginseng saponins by combination of T L C and densitome-try has been proposed and applied to the comparison of saponin contents .in the samples.
