Effect of lysine on permeability of myocardial sarcolemmal membrane in rats fed with grains from Keshan disease endemic area

Liu Songyan, Wang Lijuan, Wang Fan(Institute of Endemic Diseases)
Effect of lysine on permeability of myocardial sarcolemmal membrane in rats fed with grains from Keshan disease endemic area was studied with lanthanum tracer, and the contents of six elements including K, Ca, Mg, Zn, Se and Mo in the myocardium were measured. The results indicated that permeability of myocardial sarcolemmal membrane in rats fed with grains from Keshan disease endemic area was markedly increased, showing injury of the sarcolemmal membrane; while that of rats fed with the same diet, but to which 0.2%L-lysine was supplemented was markedly decreased, with the content of Se in the myocardium not increased, suggesting that lysine did have a protective effect on the myocardium from injury induced by grains from Keshan disease endemic area, and that this effect was not the result of an increase of Se in the myocardium.
