Observation of Polysaccharide from Ornithogalum caudatum Ait. under Atomic Force Microscope

Objective: To study the micro shape of OCAPS ba isolated from the natural plant Ornithogalum caudatum Ait. Methods: Obsearve the micro shape of this pure polysaccharide by means of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Results: The micro shape of polysaccharide is obtained and especially from the images on the magnified AFM pictures and the three dimensional AFM picture, the parallel spiral polystrands can be observed clearly. Conclusion: It is supposed that the phenomenon is resulted from the hydrogen bond association of the uronic acid containing polysaccharide chains among the molecules.
