Association between MT2A gene polymorphism and type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objective To investigate the genetic association of metallothionein(MT) 2A gene locus in chromosome 16 with susceptibility to type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) in Chinese Han people.Methods The techniques of PCR and restriction fragment polymorphism(RFLP)were used to examine single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)of MT2A gene in 129 patients with T2DM(case group) and 115 unrelated healthy individuals(control group).Results The distributions of genotype frequencies of rs10636 were not deviated from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium;there were no remarkable differences of the frequency distributions of GG,GC and CC of MT2A between cases and controls(χ~2=0.202,P0.05),and the frequency distributions of G and C had no markedly differences between cases and controls(χ~2=0.136,P0.05).Conclusion The rs10636 of MT2A gene may not be associated with T2DM.
