Effect of implanted radioactive ~(125)Ⅰ seeds on normal tissue structures of bronchus,esophagus,pulmonary artery,pulmonary vein and alveolus in dogs

Objective To investigate the effect of implanted radioactive 125I seeds on normal tissue structures of bronchus,esophagus,pulmonary artery,pulmonary vein and alveolus in dogs.Methods Nine healthy male dogs weighing 17-21 kg were randomly divided into three groups:30 d,60 d experimental groups and control group.Radioactive 125I seeds(3.7×107 Bg,1.0 mCi) were implanted into the sides of bronchus,esophagus,pulmonary artery,pulmonary vein respectively,the samples of bronchus,esophagus,pulmonary artery,pulmonary vein were taken 30 and 60 d after transplantation,HE staining was used to observe the pathologic changes of the tissues under light microscope.Results The damages of normal bronchus,esophagus,pulmonary artery,pulmonary vein and alveolus after radioactive 125I seeds implantation in 30 d group were weaker than those in control group and 60 d group,there were no complications such as perforation,hemorrhage,necrosis,etc.Histopathological score indicated that the scores of bronchus,esophagus and alveolar in 30 d group and 60 d group were higher than those in control group(P0.05),there was no significant difference between 30 d group and 60 d group(P0.05);there was no significant difference in histopathological score of pulmonary vein among all groups(P0.05).Conclusion The implanted radioactive 125I seeds can damage all kinds of tissues at different degrees,but this kind of damage is reversible,the dog may repair the damage through its own repair ability,its clinical application is safe.
