Regulation of the low dose of samarium chloride on the secretory activity of pancreatic islet cells from diabetes rat

In order to study the effect of the low dose of samarium chloride (SmCl3,005 mg/kg) on the cells secretory activity of pancreatic islet from diabetes rat,the radioimmunoassay was used.The rats were divided into four groups,they respectively were control,diabetes control,treatment with preventive and treatment group.The model of diabetes rat was made by routine STZ (Streptozotocin) method.For the rats in treatment with preventive group, they were administrated the low dose of SmCl3 every other day for two weeks by intraperitoneal,then the model of diabetes rat was made, and finally diabetes was treated using the low dose of SmCl3 for six weeks.The results showed that the rats in control groups were strong and active,their body hair was smooth and shine,their body weight increased notably.However,the rats in diabetes control group were thin,weak and inactive,their body weight decreased,the level of plasma insulin lowered obviously,the level of glucagon,somatostatin and blood sugar increased as compared with the control group.The rats in treatment with preventive group and treatment group appeared to be in good health,there was no difference in the level of insulin and somatostatin as compared with control group,and the level of glucagon and blood sugar lowered as compred with diabetes control group.From these evidences mentioned above the secretory activity of pancereatic islet cells can be regulated by the low dose of SmCl3,so the health of diabetes rats was made better.
