BACTERICIDAL EFFECT OF TiO_2/GAC PHOTOCALYST ON RECLAIMED WATER

Factors influencing the photocalytic sterilization of reclaimed water under solar irradiating with TiO_2/GAC were investigated in this paper. While the concentration of bacteria cell ranges from 5.7×10~7 to 5.7×10~2 cfu/mL, the efficiencies of the photocatalytic sterilization are in the range of 86.1% ~99.5%. When the light-intensity reaches 1.35 mW/cm~2, the efficiency of sterilization becomes 96.6%. When light with TiO_2/GAC for 3 h, more than 99% of bacterial cells were dead. Lighting only, without TiO_2/GAC there is slightly effect on bacteria survival, only 15.4% of the cell lost viability. On the contrary,only TiO_2/GAC, without lighting the effect of sterilization is 42.3%.
