PRINCIPLE AND METHOD TO STUDY SECULAR VARIATION OF THE EARTH'S ROTATION USING OBSERVATIONS OF ANCIENT ASTRONOMICAL EVENTS

Han Yanben (Department of Astronomy, Beijing Normal University, 100875, Beijing, China; Beijing Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 100012, Beijing, China)
The principle, method and significance to study the secular variation of the Earths rotation rate using observations of ancient astronomical events is simply introduced. At present, the method is thought to be the only effective one for the study of the secular variation of the Earths rotation in the past 20 centuries and more. Present results and problems of the study are also introduced.
