ANALYSING MICROWAVE PROPAGATION PROPERTIES IN DRILLING STEM

Microwave propagation properties in drilling stem are analyzed.Drilling stem is considered an ideal circular metal pipe waveguide.Radius of the drilling stem used is 107 mm in this experiment.Microwave frequency is 2.4 GHz.The wave-modes present in drilling stem and their cut-off wavelength,attenuation coefficient are calculated.Suggestions to increase propagation distance are given.Moreover,energy loss due to sand in drilling stem is analyzed.Theoretical analysis showed that decreasing logarithmic particle radius and its standard deviation could effectively reduce propagational loss.Sand density and humidity is also a crucial factor for such propagational loss.
