LUNAR-SOLAR TIDAL TRIGGERING OF EARTHQUAKES

The correlations between lunar-solar tide and earthquakes in Huabei area and Southwest area of China are analysed. The results show that lunar-solar tidal force is possibly a reason of triggering of earthquakes. Using lunar-solar orbital elements and new astronomical constants, the method of calculating tidal force was discussed, and the variable rule of the tidal force in any position of the earth can be calculated.Two typical earthquakes are analysed. The results show that using tidal force to predict the time of triggering of earthquakes is possible and that it can provide a short time for prediction with other methods of predicting seisms.
