A new appraise of the doctrine of martensitic shear

The transformation mechanism of martensite was analyzed based on the surface relief phenomenon,shear model,shear energy,shear resistance and driving force for transform.It is believed that the surface relief is a common phenomenon of super-cooling austenite transformation.The surface relief of martensite has no evident difference from that of pearlite and bainite,thus the existing transformation mechanism of martensite lacks experimental basis and the existing shear model on the basis of the orientation relationship doesn't accord with the the practice.The driving force for martensite transformation is about(1.18~1.714)×103 J·mol-1,which can't meet the requirement of transformation since the energy for shear is as large as(208~320)×103 J·mol-1 according to the existing shear model.Is was difficult for the driving force of phase transformation to overcome the transformation resistance of 2.335×103 J·mol-1 to fulfill the shear process.This shear mechanism wasn't in agreement with crystal lattice parameters of martensite crystal and substructure,therefore the new concept of the transformation mechanism of martensite was brought forward.
