Thermal expansion behavior of Zirconia ceramic

The thermal expansion characteristics,which are affected by the sintering temperature and the heat treatment conditions,are studied by a dilatometric technique for MgO partially stabilized Zirconia ceramic specimens.It is found that the phase transformation from monoclinic to tetragonal takes place at two temperature ranges in 460-830℃ and 1150-1180℃.The decrease of volume changes associated with the phase transformation contributes to the improvement of thermal shock resistance of MgO partially stabilized Zirconia ceramic.
