Effects of Slow-release Palygorskite NPN Feeds Additive on Fattening Performance of Beef

To control the releasing speed of urea nitrogen in the rumen of ruminants and increase the efficiency of safe utilization,the palygorskite with the characteristics of strong ability of moisture absorp- tion and urea were used to produce the slow-release Pal-NPN compound as the feeds additives.30 beef cattle at the age of 14~16 month-old were selected and divided into 3 groups,3%,6% and 0% slow-re- lease Pal-NPN additives were fed to the animals respectively,the two month trial and meat quality analysis in the slaughter experiment indicated that bodyweight gains and average daily gains of group 1 and 2 with 3% and 6% addition increased by 4.4 kg,72.13 g and 13.38 kg,219.3 g(P0.05),respectively,the feed conversion rate by 7.48% and 19.75%;iodine content by 36.67% and 83.33%(P0.01),Selenium content by 49.97% and 42.57%(P0.01)compared to control group;the bodyweight gain,feed conver- sion rate of group 2 was 147.17 g and 13.27% greater than that of group 1(P0.01).In the first month of the trial,the average daily gains of group 1 and 2 were 55.33 g and 209.63 g more than that of control group(P0.05),but there were increases of 90.32 g and 228.62 g in the second month,and increased by 69.36% and 9.08%,respectively.
