STUDIES ON BOTANICAL ORIGIN OF COMMERCIAL SAMPLES OF CHINESE DRUG TOUGUCAO

Objective: To clarify the botanical origin of commercial samples of Chinese drug Tougucao and the regions where it has been used, and to provede scientific basis for the species systematics and quality evaluation. Methods: Commercial samples were collected countrywidely, and studied macroscopically and microscopically for finding out their botanical origin. Results: Tougucao used in different provinces or districts are derived from 14 species (belonging to 8 families). Conclusion: Speranskia tuberculata, Impatiens balsamina and Clematis intricata are the chief species, respectively used in the Northwest, East China, North China etc. Vicia plants, Incarvillea sinensis, Gaultheria yunnanensis etc. are used respectively in certain provinces and districts as local drug.
