THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MDM2 EXPRESSION AND p53 MUTATION IN HUMAN LUNG CANCER

Objective: To study the correlation between MDM2 overexpression and p53 mutation in lung cancer. Methods: Immunohistochemistry and nonisotopic PCR SSCP were used. Results: The positive rate of MDM2 protein in 52 cases with SSCP positive was 19.2%, and in 73 cases with SSCP negative was 35.6%. In statistics, there was a negative correlation between MDM2 expression and p53 mutation (χ 2=3.98, P 0.05). The MDM2 expression status in human lung cancer was not associated with age, sex, clinical stage, histological subtypes, tumor sizes, lymphatic metastasis, and prognosis. Conclusion: MDM2 might play an important role in the development of the lung cancer without p53 mutations.
