THE THERMO-VISCOPLASTICITY AND ADIABATIC SHEAR DEFORMATION FOR A TITANIUM ALLOY TI-6AL-4V UNDER HIGH STRAIN RATES

In this paper, the thermo-viscoplastic constitutive equation and the adiabatic shear deformation for a titanium alloy Ti-6A1-4V are investigated experimentally under high strain rates, by the SHPB technique and the metallographic observation.The results of impact tests show that Ti-6Al-4 V is highly sensitive to strain rate, and its thermo-viscoplastic constitutive equation can be discribed satisfactorilly bywhich is based on the hyperbolic- shape thermo-activated barries theory.The metallographic observation shows that Ti-6A1-4V is susceptible to adiabatic shear, and all the bands observed are transformation - tyoe band.Distinguishing from the sing-variable criterion for adiabatic shear, a two-variable criterion for adiabatic shear is proposed on the base of theoretial analysis and experimental research.
