THE FREE-FIELD DISPLACEMENT OF UNDERGROUND EXPLOSION IN HARD ROCK

In this paper, the variation of the radial free-field particle displacement with the distance from the explosion center in underground explosion in hard rock saturated with water has been analysed with two different methods. The first method is to derive it from the empirical formula of stress wave parameters connected with the equations of motion. The result is that: D_M/W~(1/3)= 2.01[(1/100)·(R/W~(1/3))]~(-0.6)(where D_M is the peak value of particle displacement in cm. R the distance from explosion source to measurement station in m, and W the yield energy in equivalent kilotons of TNT); The second method is using the particle displacement sensor to measure the radial free-field displacement directly. The result is D_M/W~(1/3)=2.4[(1/100)·(R/W~(1/3))]~(-0.65) The identity of two results is quite in good agreement.
