A DAMAGE-MODIFIED NONLINEAR VISCO-ELASTIC CONSTITUTIVE RELATION AND FAILURE CRITERION OF PMMA AT HIGH STRAIN-RATES

The nonlinear mechanical behavior of two grades of PMMA at high strain-rates and large deformation were investigated experimentally. Based on Zhu-Wang-Tang's constitutive relation, by improving the nonlinear elastic terms and introducing the damage as an internal variable,a new damage-modified nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive relation is suggested,which is able to describe the "stress platform" and "constitutive instability" at large strain. Furthermore,a critical damage failure criterion,or equivalently a two-variables (ε,ε') failure criterion,is proposed. The theoretical prediction for both constitutive relation and failure criterion is in good a-greement with the experimental data.
