Resistance Analysis and Calculation of Trimaran with Super-slender Hulls

Trimaran, which has a super slender main hull and two small hulls disposed symmetrically on its sides, is a new type ship with great potentialities and has drawn much attention for the recent years. This paper presents the research effort on resistance characteristics and calculation of trimaran. By use of linear theory, a method for calculation of wave making drag of trimaran is established, and with ship shape factor"1+ k ", shape resistance of trimaran is calculated. Based on the above, a complete resistance calculation method for trimaran is put forward. The calculation results are close to that of towing tank experiment and reflect qualitatively the effect of side hull disposition on wave making drag of trimaran. This research achievement can be used to predict trimaran's resistance and is helpful for developing ships of this kind.
