Precoding based on minimum mean square error for multi-user MIMO downlinks

Different from traditional zero forcing(ZF) algorithm for MIMO downlinks based on block diagonalization(BD) to maximize system sum rate without considering mean square error of received signal,a new method of precoding for multi-user MIMO downlinks,which is called BD-MMSE,is proposed via minimum mean square error(MMSE) criterion.Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that BD-MMSE is a good tradeoff between system sum capacity and BER performance.Compared with ZF algorithm,BD-MMSE has less mean square error of received signals and better BER performance.At the same time,it keeps most system sum rate of ZF algorithm.
