Fatigue Analysis of Critical Structural Details for FPSO Hulls

LE Jing-xia,SUN Hai-hong (Transportation College,Wuhan University of Technology,Wuhan430063,China)
Fatigue analysis of Critical Structural Details(CSDs)of FPSO frames was carried out in this paˉper. It constituted a computational model for a typical CSD based on general FEM program of ANSYS.The CSD locates at the intersection of side girder through transverse frame, which has been verified to sustain the fatigue damage by a large set of survey data. The parametrical analysis by varying dimensions of lug and cut-out was carried out in order to disclose the dimensional effects on the hot spot stress.Fatigue strength at the two hot spots for a test model built in Norwegian University of Science and Technology was evaluated according to ABS rules, and the computational results were compared with those of the test model. The reˉsults showthat reasonable scantling of lug and cut-out is important to enhance the fatigue life of the CSD and the definition of fatigue criterion should be based on the consequence of fatigue failure.
