Fast method of positional optimization on distance between hulls of a trimaran based on wave resistance

It is a kind of hard work to optimize a trimaran configuration, because the distance in longitudinal direction and the distance in transverse direction between the hulls should be taken into account in the mean time. Based on Noblesse's Slender Ship Theory, where the variables are separate by expanding exponential function, the wave resistance formulae of a trimaran are obtained.The wave resistance can be calculated rapidly with these formulae.The numerical results coincide with that of the model test. Both the numerical results and the model test results show that the longitudinal distance and the transverse distance have great influence on the wave resistance of a trimaran.
