PETROCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PLUTONIC AND VOLCANIC GRANITES AND THEIR ORIGINS

Based on the relationship to the tectonic stages of development, the granites in China can be divided into two groups, the plutonic type and the volcanic type.There exist apparent differences, which mainly result from the differences of the sources and the types of process,in petrochemical indexes and petrochemical evolution between these two groups, such as acidity, alkalinity,differentiation index, oxygen ratio, the variation of oxides to differentiation index, the variation of magnesium index to differentiation index and the variation of An-Ab-Or.The plutonic granites were formed from the geosynclinal accumulations in the folding stage.With the plastic deformation of rocks, remelting and replacement occurred and thus granitic diapirs were formed. Under certain physico-chemical conditions, those diapirs may be transformed into plutonic granites.Volcanic granites have different origins. They are products of the magma from the deep part of the crust or the upper mantle. The magma moved up and, with the activity of volcanism, formed the epi-granites and subvolcanic rocks in the shallow part of the crust through the crystallization from high to low temperature.
