TRANSFORMATION OF TIME-DOMAIN AEM RESPONSETO APPARENT RESISTIVITY AND ITS APPLICATION IN GEOLOGICAL MAPPING

The recent work of AEM survey in our country shows that the time-domain AEM system is effective in geological mapping. In order to make full use of the data obtained, to eliminate the effect of flying height change and to express the results of AEM survey in apparent resistivity, a method of transforming the time-domain AEM response into apparent resistivity is studied in the paper. The method was used in two survey areas, Jiangxi and Hunan, and the excellent correlation between the maps of apparent resistivity and geological maps has been abtained. It proves that the AEM system can be employed in geological mapping and that the maps of apparent resistivity may be used to indicate an upwarped high-resistance body and a low-resistance conductor underlying Quaternary Period overburden. In addition, it has been found that the AEM system is specially sensitive to the strata of coal series so that it can bo used to explore coal deposits and outline the strata of coal series. In the region where the geology is less known, outcrops are scarce and the access is difficult, the methed has its special advantage and of economic benefits.
