A DISCUSSION ON NAPPE STRUCTURE IN YANYUAN, WEST SICHUAN

Ge Xiaohong
The author emphasizes that the famous"Yanyuan Arcuate Strttcture"and the Jinhe-Xiaohe boundary deep fault (being considered the west boundary of the Kangdian shield)are great nappe structures Which were made up in the New-Alpine stage i.e.the Himalayan stage. The author demonstrates the Yanyuan nappe structure by the different developments of structure, different environments of geotectonics before Pro-mesozoic, the discontinuous sediments during the Triassic on the two sides of the fault, and by the character of the fault and its fold zone. This paper discusses the origin of the structure, the time of deformation and its size. The nappe structure was made up by the powerful Himalayan movement which occurred by the collision of India-Eurasia plates since Tertiary. It is one of the nappe structures in the west Sichuan. The continental rift basin is closed by the nappe structure.Either admitting or denying the existance of the nappe structure in Yan-yuan West Sichuan will certainly play a strategic role in studying the basic geology and the seismic geology as well as in arranging the exploration of mineral deposits.
